DragonBall Kai Coming Soon!

Looks like DragonBall just cannot be stopped right now! In addition to the upcoming movie DragonBall: Evolution, it was announced a few days ago in Weekly Shonen Jump that a “refreshed DBZ” entitled DragonBall Kai will hit Japanese television on April 5th:

So what exactly is DragonBall Kai? Well according to V-Jump and Daizex (http://daizex.com/), we’ll be seeing the story developed more speedily with some of the filler being cut out so the story can continue in a way closer to Akira Toriyama’s orignal manga. The voice actors will be returning to re-record their lines, and the opening and ending theme songs will be renewed as well! In addition to that, the series will be remastered to remove any damage to the film, and unlike Funimation’s so-called “remastered” set, this will not be cropped and will be shown in its original 4:3.

The official website for DragonBall Kai has gone live! Just by clicking here (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/dragon_kai/)

Interesting.

It's a remastered version of Dragonball Z that removes most of the fillers. In addition, there is a new soundtrack, including a new opening and ending theme, both of which are done by Takayoshi Tanimoto of Gekiranger fame.

This turned out to be a complete bomb at least in my view. It ended up being a washed down version of DBZ with very cheap remastering (that actually cuts out 1/5 of the image) that looks worse than the American DVD remastering (which is pretty decent). The best part about it is the theme song which is pretty cool. If they remade the whole DB/DBZ with the theme song animation, that would be insane.

They didn't cut out any of the image. They did selective cropping. Basically, they only cut out things that weren't even important to begin with.

And actually, it isn't washed down. It's DBZ without all the BS fillers (the ones that every avid anime fan hates).

So I caught in on Nicktoons earlier and it wasn't that bad.... Great to hear all the old voices again. Well Gohan is different now I think. But Sean and Chris still sound great as Goku and Vegeta respectively.

So I'll be keeping my eye on this show, and can't wait till they get to Freeza my favorite villain. I mean he killed an ENTIRE species for the most part with a finger.
