So recently we got a new modem installed which had a default WPA2 setting which my DS lite is not compatible with. After doing some research via the interwebs I came across this forum and lurked for the answers that enabled the modem's wifi signal to read on my DS. After remembering some members here having a similar problem months ago I thought I'd share this forum with you. The initial part of the forum I'm linking to is to the DS section, if you want to check out the wii section for your wii you can lurk around for the answers you seek.
The wifi settings you want to put your router on is WEP, which Nintendo Wi-Fi is compatible with, and you may have to reset your computer, router, and connections in order for the WEP wifi to kick in. You'd have to do the same with your DS/Wii. Keep in mind not all internet routers are compatible with Nintendo Wi-Fi and when you try to access wi-fi points watch out for these locks. If you get an open blue lock, you can access it with no restrictions. If you get a closed red lock, its accessable but you need the WEP key in order to use it. If you get a closed black/grey lock, you can't use that lock no matter what. Initially WEP is not as secure as WPA, but if you got a WEP key, you have a better chance of not having a total stranger leech your Wi-Fi.
It should be noted that the DSi can access the internet with WPA, but as of now most Nintendo DS games with Wi-Fi are set to WEP and I think this same forum could help with that for DSi owners. You don't have to join this forum if you don't want to. You can just lurk around if you got Nintendo Wi-Fi trouble. I hope this helps.
